Post Incident Review
PIR
Supporting you following restrictive practice in mental health settings
If you have been subject to restrictive practice whilst in a mental health setting, The Advocacy People can support you.
Restrictive practice includes:
Physical restraint
Rapid tranquillisation
Seclusion
Long-term segregation
Post Incident Reviews are a 1:1 meeting with an independent Advocate. The purpose of the project is for hospitals to have a better understanding of patient experience following restraint or restrictive practice. We will ask you some questions, but you can also feedback freely about your experience.
We understand you might feel scared following a restraint and that’s why your feedback will only be shared with the hospital anonymously. If you consent, we can also support you to request changes to your care plan regarding incident management. For example, ‘I find counting and breathing exercises helpful’.
The Advocacy People collate patient feedback and share any themes with the hospital – these might be to raise concerns and improve practice or to recognise and encourage good practice.
We deliver Post Incident Review projects in Prospect Park Hospital, Reading & The Campbell Centre, Milton Keynes.
To access the service as a patient at one of the mental health settings we work in, you don't need to do anything, your hospital will let us know if you have been subject to restrictive practice. Alternatively you can ask to speak to an advocate who visits once a week.
If you would like to speak to us as a professional, to either make a referral or to enquire about the project and how we could deliver it elsewhere, please get in touch with us here.
